The upcoming Race – TRESTLE WRESTLE, is in its 3rd year in the series. We were quick to take advantage of this newly paved pathway in West Vancouver before they even had the fences down. We totally didn’t cut a lock to gain access at all. As the area becomes more and more developed and the city continues to work on the greater Mountain Path network of trails we are likely to see more pedestrians and dog walkers but this spot is still far enough away from most accessible West Van communities that it probably will never see a crowded path. I’m sure West Van residents want to keep it that way. Its a serene, quiet, peaceful stroll through the forest and I have to give credit to all those that worked on it. Its a nice amenity for the public. Originally this race was called the North Shore Knockout but “Trestle Wrestle” was voted as being a way better race name. The crowd decided. Since this path has seen a couple winters I would guess that this pavement should be perfectly broken in this year. One unique feature of this track is that although it is certainly in the forest, you can see every part of the track from anywhere else on the track – for the most part. Direct sightline from start line to finish line – an organizers dream. This means we could run a timing system without any issues of interference. It should be nice weather for this event which is a stark contrast to the two years of early morning winter races we have run in the past with this track. As usual we will have food and drinks for everyone. We will set up at some tables halfway down the track. It is a perfect setup for spectators the chill area is perfectly located. There are no washrooms on site, its possible there may be a port-a-potty from nearby construction but there are no guarantees. Thankfully this track also has some helpful track safety features built in. The first big right turn has a grass berm to the outside should you wash out. The most dangerous part is likely to be at the spectators corner combo, that is where we have seen people come off the track as they squeeze through two quick apex’s. The shut down area is narrow as the rest of the path so be smart about how and when you shut down. There is a long run out so there ought to be no issues with bunching up when coming to a stop. Look around and communicate your intentions as best you can.
Parking at the event is good, we have a parking lot at the top which is for the Trestle Bridge walk. This is very helpful for us because it does not attract unwanted attention having a bunch of cars parked in an area that would raise suspicions. The Trestle bridge walk attracts walkers and joggers etc. This works to our advantage. Please bring CASH for entry. It helps pay for the food and drinks and other supplies to put these events on. Even if you’re not interested in racing you should show up and bring a friend because this is a great spot to hang out with all your skater friends and have a good time. Freeriders are welcome we just ask that you also contribute funds to the food and drinks to help keep these events happening into the future. We won’t force you to race, but if we have odd numbers and we really need to fill out a bracket we will encourage you to hop on the line and push off in a heat. We will almost certainly be racing head to head as this track is only wide enough to facilitate two riders at once if we’re trying to be fair and safe about it. Racers earn points for competing in outlaw races. Minimum 20 points are awarded for competing. Racers earn more points based on their results.

7th- 36 points
8th- 34 points
9th- 32 points
10th- 30 points
11th – 29 points
12th – 28 points
13th – 27 points

15th – 25 points
16th – 24 points
17th – 23 points
18th – 22 points
19th – 21 points
20th – 20 points
All other racers – 20 points
– Winner of the consolation final will receive +1 point.
– Only One OPEN class for ALL Racers.
– Participating in any race earns you 20 points minimum even if you did not finish the race.
– We will aim to race out as many positions as possible but at minimum we will establish the top 8 positions.
RACE RULES
1. Please no whining to the organizer. Disputes should be settled within your heat as much as possible. Course marshals can be consulted to help resolve disputes.
2. Rubbing is racing however being an unsportsmanlike asshole is not racing. No pushing or pulling off other racers.
3. Unlimited push unless stated otherwise (refer to start line judge)
4. Push start unless stated otherwise. (refer to start line judge)
5. If you miss your heat, you’re out! We will not wait for you so please pay attention.
6. CASH ONLY at registration
7. Respect signals of corner marshals they are keeping racers safe. Please help out volunteers if needed. It takes everyone’s effort to put on a race safely. If you’re a seasoned racer, pass on the knowledge to the next generation.
8. Helmet and slide gloves mandatory at every race, along with a good attitude.
