COAST OUTLAW SERIES RACE RULES

Race rules & info for skaters & spectators.

ATTENTION DOWNHILL SKATEBOARDERS & SPECTATORS

The 2020 COAST OUTLAW RACE SERIES IS HERE!

The 2020 Coast Outlaw Series consists of 6 races, each race in a unique location. Please respect the communities we race in. The key is to be like ninjas not pirates.

Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Please check in with the race organiser at registration if you are a junior under 18 years old.

1 – Racers who place in the consolation final, and final round of racing will earn points towards the overall series, depending on the amount of racers we have on the start line for those final rounds of racing will determine how many racers earn points.
For example, If there are 4 man heats for consi’s and finals then a total of 8 people will earn points for finishing between 1st & 8th.
2 – The winner of the Consolation round will earn an additional 1 point for winning that round – they earned it.
3 – JUNIOR POINTS (18 years old and under) Racers 18 years old or under will earn 1 point for competing. This point is in addition to any points they may score in the race.
4 – Competitors will earn 2 “attendance points” for each race they compete in regardless of whether they place in the consolation or final rounds. The purpose of this is to encourage regular attendance which is an effective tactic in earning enough points to find yourself in the top 10 racers by the end of the series. Consistency is key to being on top!
5 – Racers who compete in all 7 races will earn an additional 2 points as a “perfect attendance bonus”.
6 – If during a race we have a situation where we are close to completing the race but we need to leave quickly due to a police presence, or unruly neighbour, driver interference, etc. And it is decided we will all race at once – Chinese downhill style, In this unlikely situation the top 8 racers will earn points and no bonus point will be awarded to a consi winner. We will meet up at a predetermined meetup spot immediately after the Chinese downhill heat is finished and we will wrap up the scoring, podium announcement, and giveaways so we can relax and hang out afterwards in a chill spot.
7 – If in the unlikely situation that a race cannot be completed and a backup race location is unavailable to reconfigure a suitable and fair race in its place, we will issue a total refund to all racers. This is a terrible situation and hopefully we never have to do this.

Technical rules:
8 – One question per racer per event
9 – Unlimited push start unless otherwise stated at racer meeting prior to race.
10 – The Start Line Judge may at their discretion restart a race in the event of a start line incident. If there is a crash in this area that has affected multiple riders the Starter at their discretion can call a restart regardless of fault. If any competitor moves across the start line between the time that the “Racers set” command is given and the start signal is given, a “False start” will be called. The offending competitor is charged with a “False start”.
The competitors are re-positioned and the starting procedure repeated. Two false starts by the same competitor in the same heat will result in disqualification.
11 – No contact between racers during heats is allowed except unless you’re touching another rider out of safety, not malicious intent. No pulling off riders, no pushing riders intentionally causing a crash or disruption to fair racing. The intent of this rule is to clearly establish honorable conduct among racers and foster an ethical racing attitude among all competitors. Each racer is responsible for their own line. It is the responsibility of the following rider to choose the correct line so as to avoid crashing someone out or causing a disruption to the heat.

If you and/or another rider have an problem with something that happened during the race, you must sort it out among your heat because if you come complaining to the race organizer both parties will be disqualified. There is not enough time to deal with petty squabbles between riders. Everyone should be mature enough to sort out your issues among yourselves. If an entire heat of riders agrees that a heat should be run again, and there is time to do so, then that heat may be run again at the discretion of the race organizer(s).

The final 6th race is the championship race. This race will be open to the top 20 racers according to the leader board after the 5th race. Due to Covid-19, mask usage and social distancing protocols, we will be run a INDIVIDUAL TIME TRIAL Race to determine the winner of the Final Race. This is not an ideal situation but it is the safest under current conditions. Only the top 20 racers will be invited to participate. Any Racers not able to attend need to contact teamzzaaa@gmail.com and the next racer on the scoreboard will be contacted.

When racing on open roads, there are obvious extreme risks and dangers; Other road users, vehicles, pedestrians, children, wildlife, cyclists, debris, road conditions, weather, a thousand unpredictable variables and even possible encounters with police. With this in mind, to keep everyone safe, while trying to keep the racing exciting, we will do our best to skate in places that have little to no vehicle traffic, we will have as many volunteers course workers as we can gather (please tell your friends) while encouraging EVERYONE to play a role in helping keep riders on course safe. If a course worker needs help managing traffic or riders please help as best you can. LET’S LOOK OUT FOR EACH OTHER! This is where racers and spectators alike can help out. The more people we have assisting the safe completion of the race the smoother it will run and the happier everyone will be. RESPECT AND LISTEN TO ALL COURSE WORKERS THEY ARE HELPING
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE BE RESPECTFUL OF THE SURROUNDING NEIGHBOURHOODS AND RESIDENTS!!! MAKE FRIENDS NOT ENEMIES.

The races will be scored and points will be earned, tallied, and made publicly available to view. Throughout the series, at some races there may be low scoring, fun, unique, bonus challenges with minimal points up for grabs.

SCORING SYSTEM:
The FINALS heat, AND CONSI finals will earn points.

A. Regarding finals and consi heats:
– In the case of heats with 3 riders, 1st to 6th place will earn points.
– In the case of heats with 4 riders 1st to 8th place will earn points
– In the case of heats with 5 riders (probably unlikely) 1st to 10th place will earn points.
– In the case of Chinese downhill (all at once) the top 8 riders will receive points.
– The winner of the CONSI final will receive an additional (1) point, because they worked for it.
– Low scoring bonus challenges will be under 5 points. The point is to have fun and offer occasional opportunities to earn a few points which might help on the overall scoreboard but not to disrupt the competitiveness of the overall series.
